FAQs

What is mediation and how is it different from going to court?

Mediation is a voluntary process where a neutral third party helps people in conflict have a productive conversation and work toward a mutual agreement. Unlike court, there is no judge, no verdict, and no public record. You stay in control of the outcome the entire time.

Is this really free? What's the catch?

Yes, completely free. In exchange for your session, we ask for your consent to record and anonymize the conversation for research and training purposes. Your identity is fully protected — all personal information is removed before the data is ever used for anything. You get professional mediation at no cost, and we get the opportunity to contribute to important research.

What kinds of disputes can Enero 1 help with?

We work with a wide range of conflicts including neighbor disputes, landlord-tenant disagreements, small business conflicts, workplace misunderstandings, and family or interpersonal disputes. If you're unsure whether your situation is a good fit, reach out and we'll let you know.

4

What happens if we don't reach an agreement?

That's okay. Sessions run up to four hours, and while many parties do leave with a mutual agreement, not every conversation ends that way — and that's completely normal. Even without a formal resolution, most people leave with greater clarity, a better understanding of the other party's perspective, and a calmer path forward.

Is everything we say kept private?

Your identity is fully protected. Sessions are recorded only with your written consent, and before any data is used or shared, every piece of personally identifiable information is carefully removed — including your name, location, and any details that could connect the conversation back to you. The anonymized content may be used for research or to advance the development of smarter, more empathetic technology designed to better understand human communication.

7

Do you do court-ordered mediations?

Not at this time. Enero 1 currently offers voluntary private mediation sessions only. If you've been court-ordered to attend mediation, we recommend reaching out to your local courthouse for a list of certified providers in your area.
